LiveryBot
The Polite Design Crawler
LiveryBot visits a public page when someone asks for a design kit of it, measures the design, and leaves. Here's exactly what one visit looks like.
One visit
Asked For, Checked, Measured, Gone
Every visit follows the same four steps, in this order.
- livery.site/example.com
One visit, because someone asked
01Someone Asks
LiveryBot visits a public page only when someone asks Livery for a kit of it. It never crawls on its own.
- robots.txtAllow: /livery.jsonnone, so style only02
Your Rules First
It reads robots.txt and your livery.json before anything else, and follows rules addressed to it, or to *.

03Three Screen Sizes
It renders the page at desktop, tablet and phone widths, the way a visitor would see it.

04Measured, Then Kept
Colours, type, spacing, radii, icons and motion are kept as numbers, with a reference copy of the page: its markup, styles, drawings, pictures, fonts and motion.
What it never does
Four Lines It Doesn't Cross
- Verify you are human
Stopped. Told the person who asked.
Never Gets Around a Block
No CAPTCHA solving, no dodging bot protection or rate limits. When blocked, it stops.
- /account/sign-in
Never read
Never Signs In
Login, checkout, account and banking pages are never read; banking, payment and identity sites are refused.
Never Ignores an Opt-Out
A livery.json with no levels stops new kits of your site and withdraws the published ones. Takedown requests are honoured the same way.
One visit a day, then cached
Never Visits Twice a Day
At most one visit per page per day; everyone else gets the cached kit.
Recognise, block or allow
Your Site, Your Call
Recognise It
Its rendering browser carries the same token in its user agent.
LiveryBot/1.0 (+https://livery.site/bot)
Block It
Add this to robots.txt. Kits already made can be withdrawn.
User-agent: LiveryBot Disallow: /
Allow It
If your bot protection blocks automated browsers, add an exception for LiveryBot. Then check your site to confirm Livery can read it, and consider an opt-in file to share your own design rules.
